Land of Olympia

Lagoons and lakes, gorges and waterfalls, rivers and forests: all the wealth of nature invites us to explore.

With the three rivers of Pinios, Alfios and Erymanthos crossing it from end to end, the unique natural relief and the lush vegetation of the land of Discovery, it will have anyone for whom nature is their guiding light in positive raptures! In fact, several areas belong to the Natura 2000 network with a view to preserving our rare natural heritage for generations to come.

Matchless natural beauty

If water is your passion, you can seek inspiration throughout the land of Olympia. From high on Mt Erymanthos, the fast flowing Pinios ends in a huge artificial lake with one of the biggest dams in Europe.

Going with the flow

If you’ve plenty of rafting and canoe-kayak experience under your belt, the Erymanthos can provide you with stretches of water to test the body and scenery to challenge the senses. Those less accustomed to this white-knuckle action can get acquainted with kayak in the blue waters of the Ladonas lake or go sailing and water skiing in Lake Kaiafa. For canyoning or hiking opt for the Neda gorge with its narrow passages, innumerable pools and imposing waterfalls. The other gorge of Ilia, Goura, lends itself to hiking in the summer, combining adventure with refreshing dives in the naturally formed ponds, while for a more relaxed pace, take a walk or cycle ride in the dreamlike oak tree forest of Foloi. Aspiring bird watchers will while away hours in the Lagoon of Kotyhi which hosts a total of 261 migratory birds in different seasons.

A natural source of wellness

After so many activities, it’s time to relax! In Lake Kaiafa with the therapeutic waters that come straight from the cave you will enjoy the most natural hydrotherapy with a view of pine and eucalyptus trees. At the same time, the thermal Baths of Kyllini promise to refresh you in one of the most modern hydrotherapy centres in Europe.

Aristocratic Andritsaina

Picturesque alleys, traditional stately homes and one of the most important libraries in Greece come together in Andritsaina, the stone city nestled on a verdant mountainside. Enjoy a coffee under the plane tree in the square admiring the view, pass by Trani Vrissi, possibly the oldest fountain in Western Greece and visit the folklore museum in the restored 18th century stately home, which opens a  window on a fascinating past with its 4000 genuine heirlooms. However, the undoubted pride of the city is the Public Library, one of the richest in the country with rare 16th and 17th century editions and precious manuscripts of immense historical value.

Surrender to the charm of nature and move to its exciting rhythms in the land of Olympia
